Wendy C. Goldberg
Wendy C. Goldberg is in her fifth season as Artistic Director of the National Playwrights Conference at The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. Wendy is the first woman to lead the Playwrights Conference in its 44 years. Under her leadership, plays from the past four summers have moved directly into significant world premiere productions in New York and to theaters across the country. In the 2007-2008 theatrical season, the O'Neill celebrated nine world premiere productions at theaters including Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage, The Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf and The Magic. The plays have won multiple awards including two citation winners of the American Theatre Critics Association/Harold and Mimi Steinberg Award for the best new plays in the theatrical season. This season Wendy will direct Rebecca Gilman's play The Crowd You're In with (originally developed at the O'Neill) at The Goodman Theatre in Chicago. She will also collaborate with Rebecca again, directing her play Dollhouse at The Guthrie. Recent directing credits include: Off Broadway: world premiere of Deathbed (Mc-Ginn/ Cazale). Regional: Master Class (Paper Mill Playhouse), Durango (Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park), Doubt (Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park/ Actors Theater of Louisville), Third, The Sweetest Swing in Baseball, The Clean House, Living Out (Denver Center), the world premiere of False Creeds (Alliance Theatre), The Chosen (Actors Theatre of Louisville), The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, Proof, Book of Days, On the Jump and the revival of K2 for Arena Stage in Washington, DC. Wendy has directed in every major new play development program in the United States. She also worked as Creative Advisor on the new musical Rock Of Ages which recently moved from New World Stages to Broadway. For five seasons Wendy served as the Associate Artistic Director at Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where she led downstairs in the Old Vat Room, Arena's artistic initiative dedicated to the development of new American plays, since its inception. Her work has been highlighted in Variety, The New York Times, The Washington Post and American Theater Magazine, where she was described as "one of the most promising theatre artists working today". Wendy proudly sits on the Executive Board of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and has guest lectured in graduate Directing, Playwriting and Management Programs at Brown University, UC-San Diego, The Iowa Writers Workshop, Columbia and The Yale School of Drama. She is a graduate of The University of Michigan where she studied comparative literature and theater, and holds a MFA in Directing from UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television. | ||
